The Bishop of London, Richard Chartres wrote, “There is only one vital distinction which transcends the differences between different strands of churchmanship – the distinction between a dead church and a living church. We need to think and talk about the Anglican tradition, and do so carefully. But we need to keep in mind that this is an ‘in-house’ discussion of only secondary importance (at best). The much greater task is not making a case for our party or even our tradition, no matter how aesthetically superb. Our task is offering the world a credible witness to Jesus Christ.”
