A Parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan

St. Peter's began with a group of people worshiping in the Oddfellow's hall in Whitehall in the 1950's.  The church was built in 1954 with the sanctuary seating 150.  The building was expanded in 1984, adding more seating and a choir area.  Offices, a lounge and expanded parish hall were also added.  Recently, the kitchen renovation project resulted in one of the finest kitchens in the area.  We are currently working on a meditation garden.  All facilities are handicap accessible.

OUR CLERGY

Father David and his wife Kim, came to us in July 2015.  Having served the diocese for many years as a consultant, this is his sixth church.  A professional psychologist, David has recently finished a career in the schools.  His half-time position allows him to be at the church for the first part of the week.  His permanent home is in Greenville, MI, where his wife is employed with MSU as an agricultural program coordinator.

OUR VESTRY

The governing council of an Episcopal Church is called a Vestry.  This is a group of men and women who have been called to serve the Lord and this congregation.  Vestry members are elected by the whole parish at an annual meeting (in Jan.) and represent the interests of the parish.  They are in charge of all business and finances.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

As a member of the Episcopal Church, St. Peter's joins 80,000,000 Anglicans worldwide in worship that is guided by the Book of Common Prayer.  We stand in the tradition of the great English reformers.  Our primary purpose is to glorify God in Jesus Christ.  The foundations of our faith is a belief in the Triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).  We believe that the Holy Bible contains all things necessary for salvation and that the reconcilliation of all mankind with God was accomplished by Jesus in his death, resurrection, and ascension.  We believe that all people are on a path to God, being guided by the Holy Spirit, and it is our duty to welcome, respect, and defend the dignity of every human being.
